The Experience

The guide meets you at La Herradura and walks through kayaking basics and safety on the water before you get in the boat. You'll paddle out into the Natural Area of Maro-Cerro Gordo, where the water stays clear enough to see the seabed as you move. The route takes you past cliffs that rise over 300 meters, then into the Maiden's Cove—a sheltered spot where the water turns turquoise and still.

The snorkeling stop happens at Calaiza, where you'll see orange tropical coral inside sea caves. The guide brings goggles and a watertight bag so your phone or camera stays dry, and you'll get bottled water to drink between paddling and swimming. Along the way, the guide points out the history and details of the coast—and if conditions are right, you might spot dolphins near the kayaks or mountain goats on the cliffs above.

The guide photographs the route, and you can download the images free afterward. The whole outing runs two and a half hours from start to finish. The operator emphasizes responsible tourism and protecting the marine environment, so you're paddling through a place people work to keep intact.
