The experience
Hermigua Valley opens the day after you arrive by ferry in San Sebastián. The village sits surrounded by cliffs and green slopes, and the guide walks you through its layout before the route continues to Agulo, a picturesque stop where lunch happens in a traditional restaurant. You get three courses of typical Canarian food made with local products, water, wine and dessert included. If the restaurant has availability that day, you'll watch a live demonstration of Silbo Gomero (the UNESCO-recognized whistled language native to La Gomera and found nowhere else), performed right there at the table.
After lunch, the vehicle climbs into Garajonay National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built around ancient laurel forests that feel separate from the modern world. A stop at Laguna Grande lets you stand in the spot locals say was once a gathering place for the island's witches, and the guide shares the stories attached to it. On the descent, you pass Roque de Agando, a striking volcanic lava formation that rises from the landscape and counts as one of La Gomera's most recognizable landmarks.
The return to San Sebastián gives you time to see the Torre del Conde and the Casa de Colón, the last places Columbus walked before he sailed for the Americas. The ferry back to Los Cristianos departs in the late afternoon, and your hotel pickup in Tenerife closes the loop. A valid ID card or passport is mandatory for ferry travel, and the full day runs approximately 11 to 12 hours from pickup to drop-off.
