The experience
The day starts with pickup from your Granada hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle, then heads down to the coast. You'll spend time in Nerja itself: a town built around postcard-worthy beaches where you can swim, walk the shore or eat fresh seafood. The optional kayaking and paddleboarding happen here in the Mediterranean waters. If you choose either, the day's timing shifts to fit it in.
The Nerja Caves are the centerpiece. These limestone caverns were discovered only 64 years ago and contain hanging stalactites, the world's largest stalagmite, and archaic art scattered through the chambers. You'll follow an audio guide as you walk underground, moving at your own pace through the passages. After the caves, you'll stop at the landmark viewpoint erected in 1505 (the most photographed spot in Nerja, separating El Salón and Calahonda beaches), then visit the sandy stretch where the Spanish TV series Verano Azul was filmed.
From there, the route climbs into Frigiliana, the white village perched above the coast. You can have lunch with a view of the Mediterranean or eat fresh fish on the shore, depending on where you choose to stop. Your driver and guide speak English or Spanish and handle all the logistics. The only decision you make is whether to add water sports to the itinerary.
