From the volcano you head north to the Martiño Lighthouse, a working beacon and one of the oldest in the Canary Islands. The path then crosses Las Lagunitas, a salt marsh thick with endemic vegetation, before dropping down to El Puertito—a small former fishing village where the natural pools are deep enough to swim. This is where most people cool off before the walk back to the ferry. You board at 4:15pm and return to Corralejo by 4:45pm, but not before lunch: paella served at the restaurant with unobstructed sea views, included in the price. Trekking poles are provided, and the guide carries fruit and water for the hike.

The island itself is barely 4.5 square kilometers, named for the monk seals that lived here until the last century. Its volcanic landscape, endemic plants and animals, and the clarity of the surrounding water are why it became a protected natural park. The hike is moderate—you're climbing a volcano and walking the full perimeter—so a reasonable level of fitness matters.
