Watch the sunset from Ventana del Nublo, then stay for the stars

You hike through Tejeda's forest to Ventana del Nublo, watch the sunset over Roque Nublo and Teide, then learn to identify constellations and planets as the sky darkens. The guide teaches astronomy without telescopes — you leave knowing how to stargaze anywhere. Snacks and hot drinks are included; you'll need your own transport to the meeting point.

3h

Step-by-step itinerary

Sunset hike and stargazing

  • Meet guide in mountain heart
  • Receive necessary equipment
  • Hike through forest learning geology
  • Arrive at Ventana del Nublo
  • Watch sunset with views
  • Learn basic astronomy concepts
  • Observe night sky and constellations
  • Enjoy snacks and hot drinks

The Experience

You'll need your own car to get there, which honestly sounds like a hassle until you realize it's the reason the spot doesn't feel crowded. The meeting point sits in the island's heart, in the mountains above the clouds — Tejeda, where the air gets thinner and the light changes fast. Your guide will hand you a front light and start walking you through the forest, pointing out how the geology of Gran Canaria shaped itself over time, the volcanic bones of the place still visible in the rock.

Ventana del Nublo arrives suddenly. It's one of those views that makes you stop talking — you're standing at a window looking out at Roque Nublo itself and, on clear days, all the way to Teide on Tenerife. The sunset happens here, and your guide will talk through the basics of what you're about to see in the sky: how to find planets, how constellations actually sit in space, the kind of thing you forget you never learned. The light drains. The temperature drops. Someone brings hot drinks and snacks while the first stars appear.

After dark, the real work starts — not with telescopes, but with your own eyes learning to read the night sky. Your guide teaches you to interpret what's up there so you can do this yourself on any clear night for the rest of your life. Some nights the Milky Way shows up. Some nights you'll spot Jupiter or Saturn. The hike back down happens in darkness, your front light cutting through the forest, and by the time you reach the car you'll have spent maybe four or five hours outside without once feeling rushed.

What’s included

  • Front light for the evening hike.
  • snacks and hot drinks served during stargazing.
  • local guide with knowledge of Gran Canaria's geology and basic astronomy instruction.
  • no telescopes — you learn to read the sky with your own eyes.
