The Experience

You know that hollow wooden clack when café chairs scrape across old cobblestones? That’s the first thing I noticed stepping into Chinchón’s Plaza Mayor—green balconies everywhere, a faded sun warming the square, and this low hum of locals chatting over coffee. Our guide Elena pointed out the painted woodwork (I tried to count the balconies but lost track at 70-something) and told us how they use the whole plaza for bullfights sometimes. I could smell bread baking somewhere nearby, or maybe it was just my stomach reminding me we’d skipped breakfast rushing out of Madrid.
