Boí Valley Canyoning: Jumps, Slides & Rappels in Pyrenees
Leap into Tarzan jumps and slide through icy Pyrenean waters in Boí Valley
Canyoning in Boí Valley is a 4-hour activity where you descend the Viu de Llevata Ravine with a qualified guide, making your way through water, over jumps (not mandatory), down slides and a rappel. The activity includes full neoprene, harness, safety ropes, insurance and photographs. You must be able to swim and have moderate fitness. A qualified guide leads in English or Spanish.
The Experience
What makes this ravine worth the drive? The Viu de Llevata sits in the Pyrenees and fills with cold water even on hot days: the kind of place that cools you down fast. You'll start in the town of Viu de Llevata, collect the gear (20 minutes to the ravine entrance), get briefed and suited up in neoprene, then enter the canyon on foot. The first section opens and narrows as you walk, then you'll swim a short stretch to reach the first slide. From there the ravine tightens and the choices begin: a jumping area up to 8 meters (not obligatory), a run-run-jump section, the famous Tarzan jump (also optional), a couple more jumps and a small rappel that brings you to the exit.
The guide leads the whole descent and handles the safety setup (ropes, harness, descender), so you focus on moving through the water and deciding which jumps to take. Every jump is optional, which means you can pick your own level of risk as you go. Once you exit the ravine, a 30-minute walk brings you back to the meeting point where spare clothes, food and drinks are waiting. Then it's back to the town of Viu de Llevata to return the gear.

Can I do this canyoning activity if I'm not a strong swimmer?
You must be able to swim to join this activity, since you'll swim through sections of the ravine to reach the slides and jumps. The guide will be with you the whole time, and the swimming stretches are short, but basic swimming ability is required.
What happens if I don't want to jump?
All the jumps (the 8-meter area, the Tarzan jump and the others) are optional, so you can skip any or all of them and still complete the ravine descent. You'll still slide, rappel and move through the water. The jumps are just an extra choice.
How cold is the water in the Viu de Llevata Ravine?
The ravine stays cold even during hot weather, which is why it's a popular spot in summer. You'll wear a full neoprene suit to stay warm, and the cold water is part of what makes the experience refreshing rather than uncomfortable.
What's included in the price, and do I need to bring anything?
The activity includes full neoprene suit, harness, safety ropes and descender, neoprene booties, accident and civil liability insurance, and photographs taken during the descent. Bring a swimsuit under the neoprene, a towel, and a change of clothes for after.
Is this activity suitable for children?
The activity is recommended from age 8, provided the child can swim and has moderate physical fitness. The optional jumps mean younger or less confident participants can still complete the ravine at their own pace.
