The Experience
I didn’t expect to laugh so hard at a licorice ball pit, but that’s pretty much where my House of Candy day started. There was this moment when my friend tried to do a cannonball and got stuck—licorice everywhere, the kind that smells faintly like childhood birthday parties. The staff (all in these pastel aprons) just grinned and handed us giant gummy bears like it was totally normal. Guess it is here in Barcelona.
You wander through room after room—there’s a candy castle you can actually bounce on (I fell over, twice), an ice cream forest that smells weirdly real, and these oversized lollipops you’re allowed to touch. I kept thinking, “Is this what being inside a board game feels like?” Our favorite spot was the photo studio with neon lights; some local teens were showing us how to pose with the props. I probably looked ridiculous but honestly didn’t care.
The whole thing takes about 90 minutes, but we lost track of time. At the end, you spill out into this little café—cookies from Demasié stacked up behind glass, gelato melting just enough around the edges. I tried to order coffee in Catalan (the barista smiled politely). Even now, I still think about that sugar rush and how for a while everything felt lighter than usual.
