The Experience

You're standing on Passeig de Gràcia, one of Barcelona's most famous avenues, and your guide is pointing out something you'd probably walk past otherwise: the way Casa Batlló's balconies look like they're breathing. The undulating stone, the blue and green tiles catching the light—it's the kind of detail that makes you stop and actually look at a building instead of just photographing it. Inside, you move through the main floor and dining room, seeing how the Batlló family lived a century ago, and then climb to the rooftop. It was Gaudí's first house, and it feels different—more ornate, more decorative, less abstract than the later buildings. You finish with a glass of cava in the quiet rooms, which is a nice way to end the tour without feeling rushed.
