The experience

You arrive in Oviedo and the driver meets you at your hotel to begin a 10-day loop through Spain's northwest coast. The car stays yours for the full journey, which means no switching between guides or waiting for group departures. The pace is yours to set within each day's route. The driver handles navigation and knows the region. You decide how long to linger at each stop.

The route moves through four regions in sequence. In Galicia, you walk the old town of Santiago de Compostela, reach Finisterre (the "end of the world" to ancient Romans), and visit the Tower of Hercules, a lighthouse standing for twenty centuries. A boat tour follows the Sil River through Ribeira Sacra's wineries, and you walk Lugo's Roman walls. Asturias brings you to Silence Beach and the fishing village of Cudillero, then inland to Oviedo and Gijón, with stops at Covadonga Lakes and the Covadonga Sanctuary. Cantabria includes Santander, the 18th-century town of Santillana del Mar frozen in time, and Comillas with its Gaudí-designed house and caves holding 30,000-year-old paintings. The Basque Country closes the loop with Bilbao's Guggenheim Museum, Gernika's ancient parliament hall, the clifftop chapel of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe (filmed for Game of Thrones), and San Sebastián's downtown.
