The experience

The day starts with a 3-hour safari through Big5 territory as the light drops toward the mountains. You move through the reserve with a live English-speaking guide, watching for wildlife in the golden hour when animals are most active. The route ends at a private bush dinner setup exclusive to this group: a roaring fire, a cleared dining area, and the Drakensberg rising in the distance.

Dinner is a 3-course meal: starter, main and dessert, built around traditional flavors. Sundowner drinks arrive first (your choice of alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages), and you toast around the fire before the meal begins. Snacks (dried mango, crisps, peanuts and raisins) keep you going between courses. The whole experience runs five hours from start to finish, including the drive back.

Pickup is included in the booking. The reserve sits between Kruger and the Drakensberg, so the setting itself is part of what you're paying for: the mountains frame the sunset, and the fire anchors the evening. Conservation fees for the reserve are covered.
