The experience

The Boerperd horses here are bred for the work: calm, sturdy animals suitable whether you've ridden before or never have. You'll spend 1.5 hours in the saddle moving through 240 hectares of bush where the animals roam loose: giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, several antelope species and birds that you encounter as part of the landscape rather than behind a fence. A guide leads the ride and speaks English throughout. Helmets are compulsory and provided. The sanctuary is near Stellenbosch, and the operator will confirm the exact meeting point and time when you book. Minimum group size is two riders. If only one person books, the ride won't run and you'll be offered an alternative date or a refund. Weight is checked on arrival.
