The experience
The route threads through four cities and their landmarks in sequence. You start in Pretoria at the Voortrekker Monument, the massive granite structure commemorating the Great Trek of the 1830s–1850s, then move to Church Square and its surrounding buildings: the Palace of Justice, where the Rivonia Trial began, and the Paul Kruger House museum. The Union Buildings, Herbert Baker's iconic government seat overlooking the city, is where Nelson Mandela was inaugurated and where his statue now stands.
From Pretoria, the tour crosses into Johannesburg to Constitutional Hill and the Constitutional Court, then to Chancellor House. The route then enters Soweto township to visit Mandela House on Vilakazi Street (his former home, now a museum), and the Bishop Tutu House nearby. The Hector Pieterson Memorial and Museum, dedicated to the young activist killed during the 1976 uprising, anchors the township section. The day closes at the Apartheid Museum, a comprehensive record of apartheid's history, resistance to it, and the transition to democracy.
The guide is live and English-speaking throughout. Hotel pickup is included, and the vehicle is air-conditioned with WiFi on board. Bottled water comes with the tour.
