The experience
The day starts with a pickup and a bike fitted to you, then you cycle through Franschhoek's backroads with exclusive access to routes most riders never see. You'll pass through vineyards on a route your guide builds around your fitness and interests. If you want to shorten it or add another stop, that's the plan. A support vehicle stays nearby the whole time, carrying water, snacks and anything you need.
Wine tastings happen at three of the four vineyards you cycle through, each one a working farm where the guide walks you through what's in the glass. Lunch is included at a winery on the full-day tour and happens at your own cost on the half-day version. The guide speaks English and knows the region's history and the wines themselves, not a lecture, just conversation while you taste. Helmets, bicycles and all gear are provided. E-bikes are an option if you want the pedaling easier.
Children from age 6 can join on specialized equipment built for smaller riders. The tour suits all fitness levels, though it does involve cycling for several hours across the day. You'll get cellar access at the wineries and see how the farms operate. It's not a drive-through tasting but a real look at how the wine gets made.
