Step-by-step itinerary
Leisurely cycling and wine tastings
- Cycle through vineyards and backroads
- Stop to view bronze sculptures and art gallery
- Enjoy wine tasting with chocolate or biltong pairing
- Visit Leeu Estates on request
- Wine tasting at boutique wine farm
- Relaxed farm-to-fork lunch at Mont Rochelle (own account)
- Optional wine tasting at another renowned farm
The experience
The day starts at the Dutch Reformed Church in the centre of Franschhoek. You'll cycle through backroads and vineyard tracks (terrain chosen for relaxed pace, not speed) stopping first at Mont Rochelle, where bronze sculptures dot landscaped gardens and a farm-to-fork lunch waits at the country kitchen if you want it (your own cost). The panoramic views across the valley frame the meal, and you can browse the resident art gallery between courses.
Your guide takes you to a second winery for a world-class wine tasting paired with either homemade chocolate or traditional South African biltong. Kids get a juice-and-chocolate pairing instead. The route includes access to boutique farms like Grand Provence, La Bri, La Bougonne and Holden Manz: places most visitors never reach. If the distance feels right, you can ask to pass through Leeu Estates or add a third stop. If you want to shorten the loop, your guide adjusts on the spot. The whole outing runs about four and a half hours.
Helmets and bikes are provided, and your guide handles the navigation and the cellar introductions. The tracks are built to let you talk, breathe and take in the vines without racing.
