Ride through working vineyards under oak trees, then eat or taste wine on the estate

ATV riding at Vrede en Lust Wine Estate in Franschhoek's foothills: you operate the quad bike on a 90-minute trail that winds through vineyards, under oak trees and along the river, at a pace that lets you take in the mountain views. The guide rides with you. Helmet is provided. Children from age 5 can ride (ages 5–15 ride with an adult on a second bike, charged separately). Minimum age for solo riding is 8. Lunch at Rhebok restaurant or a wine tasting on the estate follows the ride.

Quad bike trail and estate visit

The experience

You arrive at Vrede en Lust, a working farm in the Simonsberg foothills, and get fitted with a helmet. The guide briefs you on the quad bike, then leads you out onto a trail that meanders through the estate's own vineyards, under mature oak trees, and alongside the river. The pace is gentle (this is not a speed run), so you can actually look around at the mountains and valleys as you ride. The whole ride takes 90 minutes.

The trail itself is the point: you're operating the bike, not watching someone else drive, and the route stays on the working farm so you see how the vineyard actually sits in the landscape. Children aged 5 to 15 ride with an adult on a second quad (charged as an extra booking), while kids 8 and up can ride solo. The guide stays with the group throughout.

After you finish, the estate has two options: lunch at Rhebok restaurant on the property, or a wine tasting. Both happen on-site, so you can move straight from the trail to the table without leaving the grounds. Weather can cancel the ride, but the operator will offer you an alternative date if that happens.
