The Experience

The tour starts with pickup at Koper port and heads to Postojna Cave, where you board an electric train that carries you through the underground passages. The train does the heavy work. From there, the route leads to Predjama Castle in the village of Predjama, about thirty minutes away. The castle sits halfway up a hillside, built directly into the mouth of a cavern. An unusual medieval fortress that was home to Erazem, a robber baron known locally as the Slovenian Robin Hood. Your guide walks you through the castle and tells the legend of Erazem, whose story is tied to the cave itself. The castle's dramatic setting in the rock face is the main draw here, and the guided walk gives you the context that makes it stick.
