The experience
Jože Plečnik was an architect, professor, dog owner, cat owner, coffee lover and chain smoker, but never a husband or father. What he was, above all, was the man who redesigned Ljubljana. Starting at Triple Bridge (where only two of the three spans are actually his), you walk through the two-level riverfront work that stretches toward Dragon Bridge, then move through the squares and theaters he built. The guide shows you not just the famous sites but the hidden corners: the details in his columns, the way he lit Congress Square, the specifics that don't make it into books.
Krizanke Summer Theatre is his last major work in Ljubljana, and the guide points out the details that make it the city's best outdoor venue. The National and University Library stands as one of his masterpieces, a building that tells you everything about how Plečnik thought. Along the way, you stop for tastings (local food and wine), which the guide says tell you more about the city and its people than any speech could. If the pace gets tiring, there's time to sit down for Plečnik's favorite tea or wine.
You can choose a 2-hour, 3-hour or 4-hour version of the tour, depending on how deep you want to go. The guide speaks English or Spanish, and the walk is wheelchair accessible with all surfaces flat. Public transportation is nearby if you need it, and the guide offers advice on what else to see in Ljubljana or Slovenia once the tour ends.

Is Congress Square really just a square, or did Plečnik do something special there?
Congress Square sits over a river and features Plečnik's custom lighting and distinctive columns. The square was redesigned by Plečnik and later hosted one of the biggest events ever held in Ljubljana.
