The experience

You meet the guides at their base in Bovec, where you get fitted with neoprene, helmet, life jacket and shoes. A 3-minute van ride takes you to the entry point on the river. From there you paddle yourself for 1.5 hours down the most panoramic section of the Soča, the water carrying you past mountains and the spot where Boka, Slovenia's biggest waterfall, becomes visible. On clear days Mt. Triglav, the country's highest peak, rises above the valley. You'll pass the stretch used for filming The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.

The guides give you time to swim in the river and practice balance tricks. They'll challenge you to a kayak-stand, and there's plenty of laughing when people tip. The whole paddle is 6 km, and the river's flow does most of the work. You're steering and enjoying the water, not fighting it. After you finish, the guides drive you back to the base or your pickup location.

Equipment, transport during the activity, lockers and showers are included. The guides speak English and will share facts about the Soča Valley as you go. Photos and videos from the paddle are sent to your email for free, so you have something to take home besides the memory of cold, clear water and mountains.
