If you want real adventure near Bovec, canyoning at Sušec is hard to beat. You’ll jump, slide, swim—and laugh a lot—with local guides who know every hidden corner of the canyon.
Rain or shine, the air up in Bovec always feels crisp—especially when you’re zipping up a wetsuit at the trailhead. Our guide Luka handed out helmets while cracking a joke about “Slovenian waterfalls being better than coffee.” The walk to Sušec Canyon isn’t long, maybe 10 minutes through pine-scented woods. You’ll hear the water before you see it—kind of a low rush mixed with birdsong.
The first pool looked colder than it felt. I slid in and that shock woke me right up—honestly, better than any espresso. We took turns jumping off ledges (some higher than they look from below), sliding down smooth rock chutes, and letting the guides lower us by rope over the bigger drops. There’s this one spot where you land right next to a mossy wall and can smell wet stone and wild mint. Between jumps, we floated on our backs for a minute just watching sunlight flicker through the trees above.
Nope! If you can swim and feel comfortable in water, you’re good to go. The guides explain everything step by step.
