The experience

The tour starts at noon in front of the Park Inn by Radisson Danube Hotel with a licensed guide who speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French or Russian. The first half is a walking tour through Bratislava's historical center, where you pass the Slovak National Theatre, the Reduta building of the Slovak Philharmonic Orchestra, the Man at Work statue, and the Central Square with its Roland Fountain. You'll see the Old Town Hall, the Franciscan Church (the oldest sacral building in Bratislava), the Primate's Palace, St. Michael's Gate, St. Catharine Chapel, the Palace of Hungarian Royal Chamber, Mozart House, and Academia Istropolitana before finishing at St. Martin's Cathedral.

The second half shifts to a panoramic city tour by car. You drive past the Presidential Palace and a district of early 20th-century functionalist villas, then reach Bratislava Castle for views across the city. The drive continues to Slavin Monument, which overlooks Bratislava. From there, you head to Devin Castle, one of Slovakia's oldest buildings, dating to the 9th century and once home to St. Cyril and St. Method, the patrons of Slovakia. Devin Castle sits on the border where Slovakia, Czech Republic and Austria meet, and where the Danube and Morava rivers converge: the same spot that marked the Iron Curtain during communism. You have the option to enter the castle, then return to your hotel or the city center to end the tour.

An air-conditioned vehicle carries you through the panoramic portion. Infants can sit on an adult's lap or use a specialized infant seat if you request one. The tour suits all fitness levels, though the walking section covers the Old Town's streets and squares on foot.
