The experience
The tour leaves Glasgow in a luxury Mercedes minivan and heads north into the Scottish Highlands, stopping first at Doune Castle before reaching Stirling Castle, the coronation place of Mary Queen of Scots. At Stirling you explore the former royal residence on your own, moving through James V's Palace (one of Scotland's finest examples of Renaissance architecture) the Great Hall and the Regimental Museum. The castle's history spans the coronation of the infant Queen Mary and the Battle of Stirling Bridge, and you have time to photograph the stonework and take in the views from the ramparts.
After Stirling, the route continues south through Trossachs National Park to Aberfoyle, a small town on the River Teith at the foot of Craigmore that sits on the alternative route through the Trossachs opened to the public in 1931. From there you travel to Luss pier on Loch Lomond, where the loch spreads out in front of you: a popular spot for photographs with the surrounding highlands visible across the water. The journey passes through Callander and along Loch Venachar, where the remains of an ancient hillfort at Dunmore overlook the water from a low hill.
The minivan carries a live English-speaking guide throughout the day, and hotel pickup from Glasgow is included. Bottled water and WiFi on board are provided. The full route takes 6 to 8 hours, and the tour suits all fitness levels. Infants and small children can travel in a pram or stroller, and specialized infant seats are available.
