The experience
The River Tummel is a Class 3/4 river, which means you'll hit genuine rapids: steep enough to throw you around, but not so relentless that you're fighting for your life the whole way down. The operator designs the route so each rapid is followed by a calmer section where you can catch your breath, collect your tube if you've taken a swim, and steady yourself before the next one. That rhythm is what makes three hours feel manageable instead of exhausting.
Everything you need arrives with you: wetsuit, helmet, buoyancy aid, neoprene gloves and boots, and a splash jacket if the water's cold. The operator provides specialist footwear in UK sizes 4 to 12, and even a glasses strap if you wear them. A live guide leads the group through the rapids and manages the pace. After you come off the water, you'll find changing robes (for privacy while you strip out of the wet kit), changing buckets to stand on, hot drinks, and snacks waiting. The operator also hands over photographs from the trip.
This is a mobile operation, so the facilities are simpler than a fixed outdoor centre, but toilet access is there, and the changing setup is designed to keep you comfortable and your dry clothes actually dry on the drive home.

What does Class 3/4 white water actually feel like on the River Tummel?
Class 3/4 rapids are steep and turbulent enough to give genuine thrills and the real possibility of falling in, but they're not continuous: the operator builds in calm sections after each one so you recover before the next rapid hits. You'll get tossed around, but the route is designed so you're not fighting for survival the whole time.
Do I need to bring my own swimwear, or is everything provided?

How long does the actual tubing take, and what happens before and after?
The river activity itself is three hours. You'll arrive, get fitted with gear, and head to the water with your guide. When you come off the river, you'll change into dry clothes using the provided robes and buckets, then have hot drinks and snacks while the operator shares photographs from the trip.
