The Experience

Hands wrapped around a takeaway coffee (the kind that tastes better when you’re half awake), I watched our driver—Stuart—wave us onto the minibus outside Edinburgh. He had that easy Scottish humor, dry but kind. The first hour was mostly chatter about where we’d come from and sheep jokes—so many sheep jokes. But as we rolled into Loch Lomond & the Trossachs, something shifted; mist on the water, a cold edge in the air. Stuart pointed out tiny islands and told us about clans who used to hide there. I still remember how quiet it got for a minute—just tires humming and birds somewhere out in the fog.

The Isle of Skye itself is wild in a way that’s hard to explain until you’re there.
