Invergordon Outlander tour: Culloden, Urquhart Castle & whisky
Touch the stone that sent Claire back 200 years, then walk a battlefield where the Highlands fell.
This six-hour guided tour from Invergordon traces locations that inspired the Outlander series across the Scottish Highlands, starting at Clava Cairns (the stone Claire touched to travel through time), then moving through Culloden Battlefield with its 4D cinema, Urquhart Castle on Loch Ness, Beauly Priory, and Glen Ord Distillery. A live English-speaking guide leads the route in an air-conditioned vehicle. Whisky tasting at the distillery is included, though castle and battlefield admissions are separate. Minimum age is 18.

The experience
You start at Clava Cairns, the standing stone that anchors the Outlander time-travel premise. From there the tour moves to Culloden Battlefield, where you walk the ground of the 1746 clash and watch a 4D cinema that puts you inside the fighting. The Fraser Stone marks where clan members fell. This is the historical spine of the day, not a recreation, but the actual field where the Highlands' armed resistance ended.
Urquhart Castle sits on the shore of Loch Ness, partially ruined since 1692 when it was deliberately destroyed to keep Jacobite forces from using it. The Outlander narrative places Claire here washing at the water's edge, where she senses something ancient in the loch. You get time to walk the ruins and the shoreline yourself. Beauly Priory, a 15th-century structure, closes the historical thread: the place Jamie Fraser left for France, and where a possible connection to a James Fraser grave adds another layer to the day.
Glen Ord Distillery is your final stop. A complimentary whisky tasting is part of the tour. You can buy bottles if you want to take something home. Before that, you meet Highland cattle at a farm: a small moment that breaks up the day and gives you a chance to pick up last-minute gifts. The whole route runs six hours in an air-conditioned vehicle with a guide who knows the Outlander connections and the history behind them.
