The experience

The day starts at Pollok Park on Glasgow's outskirts, where you hand-feed the Highland Cows: the 'hairy coos' that show up in every Scottish postcard. From there the route heads toward Falkirk and the Kelpies, two legendary sea horse sculptures that weigh 300 tons each and stand 100 feet tall. They're a feat of engineering and the stop gives you time to walk around them and photograph them from every angle without a crowd.

Stirling comes next, about 90 minutes in the town itself. It's known as the 'Gateway to the Highlands' and the centre is full of historic streets, independent shops and cafes. If you want to go inside Stirling Castle or visit the Wallace Monument, your guide can take you. Both have separate admission fees. On the way back toward Loch Lomond, there's a quick stop at Doune Castle if you're a fan of Outlander, Game of Thrones or Monty Python and the Holy Grail, all of which filmed there.

The final stop is Loch Lomond itself. The tour includes a one-hour Experience cruise departing at 3:30pm, which is the sailing time that fits the schedule. If a boat isn't what you want, your guide takes you to Luss instead: a conservation village on the loch's banks with historic cottages, colourful gardens and views across the water.
