The experience

There’s this moment when the bus crests a hill near Callander and suddenly the Highlands just spill out in front of you: green and gold patches, a bit of mist hanging low. I was half-asleep until then (early start from Edinburgh), but that view snapped me awake. Our guide, Jamie, had this way of mixing old stories with jokes. He called Callander “the gateway” and pointed us to a bakery where I tried something called a bridie. Greasy hands, flaky pastry, totally worth it. The last stretch through Cairngorms was quieter: blue shadows over pine forests, sheep scattered across impossible slopes. And then: Hairy Coos! They really do look like walking rugs with horns.
