Then Glencoe Valley, where you walk a short distance from the parking area to see the full panorama of the valley floor and the Three Sisters peaks rising above it. The Meeting of Three Waters is a smaller moment, but the rivers converge in a way that catches the light. Loch Achtriochtan sits quiet and steep-sided near the village of Glencoe. All of this happens before you reach Loch Ness.

Urquhart Castle sits on the bank of Loch Ness, its ruins facing the water where people still watch for the monster. Admission is around £13 and not included in the tour price, but the castle is why you came to this part of Scotland. After that, Culloden Battlefield—1746, the end of the Jacobite rebellion, a museum with weapons and artifacts, paths through the fields where it happened. Admission is around £14, also separate. If there's time on the way back, Pitlochry gives you thirty minutes to eat, use the bathroom, and pick up a souvenir. Then the drive back to Edinburgh, arriving in the evening.
