Edinburgh Harris Tweed Handbag Workshop: Craft Your Satchel
Walk out with a handbag you built yourself, not one from a shelf.
This 90-minute handbag-making workshop in Edinburgh lets you craft a custom Islander mini satchel from start to finish. You choose the body color, select a Harris Tweed® or Lochcarron® cloth lid, pick your straps and accessories, then construct the bag using provided tools under the guidance of a live instructor. The experience
If you land in Edinburgh with a free afternoon or want a hands-on souvenir that tells a story, this workshop gives you something most travelers skip: the chance to make the thing itself instead of buying it. You'll arrive 5 minutes early, choose your materials from the available colors and fabrics (Harris Tweed® or Lochcarron® cloth for the lid, a body color to match your taste), and then spend 90 minutes at a workbench learning to assemble the bag. The instructors walk you through each step, and all the tools are there waiting.
The construction is the point. You're not watching a demonstration. You're holding the needle, fitting the pieces, making the decisions about how tight the stitches sit and how the straps align. The workshop sits on the first floor and is accessible by stairs. One bag per person per session. If you want to make more than one, you'll need to book separate time slots. Once you finish, the bag is final. There's no exchange or refund, which is the trade that makes it real.
Arrive with 5 minutes to spare so you're seated and ready when the class starts. The instructors speak English, Spanish, French, German and one additional language. Children as young as 12 can join, and the workshop suits all fitness levels. Public transportation runs nearby if you're traveling without a car, and service animals are welcome.
What’s included

Is this one for you?Book this workshop if you're spending an afternoon in Edinburgh and want to leave with something you made yourself rather than something you bought. The small group setting and hands-on format mean you'll spend the full 90 minutes actually building, not watching, which is what makes the finished bag feel like yours.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
Live guide in English, Spanish, French, German and Chinese.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
Can I choose what my handbag looks like?
Yes. You select the body color of your Islander mini satchel, then pick your Harris Tweed® or Lochcarron® cloth lid, bag straps and accessories to match your style, whether you want something bold or classic. The combination is yours to design.
What happens if I make a mistake while building the bag?
The instructors guide you through the construction process step by step, so mistakes are part of learning. Once you finish and leave the workshop, the bag cannot be exchanged or refunded, so the finished piece is the one you take home.
Is there a waiting area if someone comes with me but doesn't want to make a bag?
No. The workshop has no seating or waiting space for guests who aren't participating in the class, so anyone joining you would need to book their own session or make other plans during the 90 minutes.
How old do you have to be to join the workshop?
The minimum age is 12 years old. Younger children cannot attend.
What if I want to make more than one handbag?
You can only make one bag per workshop session. If you want to make multiple handbags, you'll need to book separate time slots at different times.
Do I need to bring any tools or materials?
No. All tools and components are provided. You just show up ready to build.
