The experience
The day starts with pickup from your Tabuk hotel and a one-hour drive south into Wadi Hisma's desert landscape. Your guide handles all navigation in a reliable air-conditioned 4X4, so you focus on the terrain rolling past. The first stop is Jabal Al-Safina, Ship Rock, where over 200 ancient inscriptions and carvings mark the mountainside. You'll view them from outside the fenced perimeter but get a clear look at the detail carved into the stone.
From there the route moves into Bajdah Reserve, where the landscape opens up enough to spot Arabian gazelle moving through their natural habitat. A scenic drive through the Bajdah Mountains follows, with rock formations stacked and layered in ways that shift as you move. Then comes the Secret Garden, a hidden pocket in the desert where a short ten-minute hike takes you between the mountains on foot: the only walking stretch of the day, and brief enough that it breaks up the driving without demanding stamina. A panoramic viewpoint comes next, positioned to hold the full sweep of the dramatic scenery.
Lunch happens at a desert camp, where you eat local food in an authentic setting rather than a tourist restaurant. The afternoon includes a visit to the Hisma Museum, where the region's history unfolds through exhibits and artifacts. The return to Tabuk takes the afternoon into early evening, with drop-off back at your hotel.
