The experience
The tour begins with pickup from your hotel lobby and takes you to Masjid-e-Quba, built 6 kilometers outside Medina in the village of Quba before the city expanded to include it. This was the first mosque erected by Muslims. From there you move to Masjid-e-Qiblateen, where the congregation received the command to change the direction of prayer from Jerusalem to Mecca and shifted mid-salah under the Prophet's leadership. The route then covers Masjid-e-Juma on Medina's boundary, marking where the first Friday prayer took place shortly after the migration from Mecca, with approximately one hundred Muslims in attendance.
The second half of the tour reaches Jannatul Baqi, the main cemetery of Medina, where members of the Prophet's close family, around ten thousand companions, and many prominent figures are buried. You then visit the Shuhada Martyrs District in front of Mount Uhud, where Hamzah (the Prophet's uncle and known as the Lion of Islam) is buried. Mount Uhud itself is the site where the second battle in Islam took place in 3 AH. Nearby stands Salman Farsi Garden, where the Prophet planted three hundred date palms to free Salman Farsi from slavery. The tour concludes at the Seven Mosques complex, a cluster of six small historic mosques in the city.
Your driver speaks English, Hindi, Arabic or Urdu depending on your selection. The vehicle is air-conditioned and sized to your group: options range from a sedan for three passengers to a bus for forty-five. Hotel pickup is included, and you should be ready in your lobby ten minutes before the start time. The exact duration depends on traffic and time of day, though the operator estimates 2 to 2.5 hours for the full route.
