The experience

Jeddah sits on the Red Sea coast as the historic gateway to Mecca, and this tour moves between its newest and oldest faces. You start at the northern waterfront in the Abhur area, where the Jeddah Tower (planned at 1,000 meters with 157 floors) rises above public beaches and yacht marinas. From there the route follows the Corniche, passing the Jeddah Yacht Club, the Al Rahma Floating Mosque with its turquoise dome and 52 outer domes, and the Jeddah Corniche Circuit, the Formula One track built along the Red Sea coastline. A 4,500-meter sports track runs the length of the waterfront, and you'll see the King Fahd Fountain, which shoots seawater 200 meters into the air, and the King Abdulaziz Flag, standing 171 meters high.

The second half moves into Al-Ballad, Jeddah's old quarter, where 19th-century tower houses built by merchant families still stand alongside souqs and ancient neighborhoods called harrats. These buildings blend Red Sea coral traditions with architectural influences from the trade routes that once made Jeddah a crossroads for pilgrims and traders. You'll walk through the old streets, pass private house museums, and have free time to shop in the Souq Al-Ballad. The tour ends at the Central Fish Market, which opens at daybreak with over 100 stalls selling the widest selection of fish in Saudi Arabia: fishermen offload their catch as buyers bid on the day's haul.

The tour runs 7 to 8 hours with a live guide speaking English or Arabic. Pickup from your hotel is included, and the vehicle is air-conditioned. You'll receive bottled water and coffee or tea throughout the day. The pace requires at least a moderate level of physical fitness, as you'll be walking through old neighborhoods and standing at various stops.

What is Al-Ballad and why is it worth seeing on this tour?

Al-Ballad is Jeddah's historic quarter, built in the late 19th century by the city's merchant elites. The tower houses there combine Red Sea coral building traditions with architectural influences from ancient trade routes, and the neighborhood preserves old souqs, harrats (traditional neighborhoods), and private house museums that show how the city looked before modernization.
