The experience
The tour starts with a pickup from your accommodation in Brașov and a drive of one to one-and-a-half hours into a remote forest area. Once you arrive, you meet the forest ranger who leads you off-road to an elevated observation hide: a safe, calm space built specifically for watching without disturbing the animals. Your guide shares details about the local ecosystem and animal behavior as you settle in.
From the hide, you have roughly two hours to watch and photograph bears and other wildlife moving through their territory. The late afternoon is when animals are most active and sightings are most likely. The hide itself keeps you at a safe distance and shields you from view. Your guide will remind you to avoid flash photography, focus-assist lights, and any sudden movements that might startle the animals. Before dark falls, you return to the vehicle for the drive back to Brașov.
The tour runs April through October or November depending on conditions, with April onwards offering the most favorable wildlife activity after winter. Because this takes place in an uncontrolled wild environment, sightings are never guaranteed. The operator cannot refund if no bears appear at the site. Wear sturdy shoes and muted colors, avoid perfume and food smells (bears have extremely sensitive noses), and follow the forest ranger's instructions if you encounter an animal in the field.
