Step-by-step itinerary
Explore beaches, caves, and waterfalls
- View old San Juan sea view
- Photo stop by golden Arches beach
- Enjoy crystal clear beach waters
- Visit black sand beach and lunch
- Explore ancestral caves
- Relax at coral reef beach
- Hike to two waterfalls
The experience
The day starts with a view across the sea toward old San Juan, then moves through a series of beach and water stops. You'll spend time at one of Puerto Rico's clearest family beaches with calm, transparent water; a black sand beach where lunch happens (no swimming here); and a reef-protected beach where the coral separates you from the open ocean. Between these, you stop at caves where ancestors lived and major films like Pirates of the Caribbean were shot.
The Vega Baja section centers on the limestone springs and pools: places like Manantial Ojo de Agua, which locals use to cool off and which offer bright, colorful settings for photos. Snorkeling stops let you see small tropical fish, coral and sea life in typically calm water. The Arecibo lighthouse near La Playa Poza del Obispo delivers views that can be especially striking near sunset if timing works out.
The forest hike to the two waterfalls is the physical anchor of the day. You walk two minutes to the first waterfall, then about ten more minutes through lush green forest to reach the second one. Both sit in a limestone-rich area with polished rocks and fresh water. Bring swimming gear and water shoes because you will get wet. The tour covers eight hours total, with private transportation throughout and an air-conditioned vehicle for the drives between stops.
