Scuba Diving in San Juan: Discover Scuba at Escambrón Marine Park
Breathe underwater and drift weightless among tropical fish and sea turtles
Discover Scuba is a beginner scuba experience in San Juan's Escambrón Marine Park with Scuba Dogs, the only official operator at the site. You get a safety briefing, gear fitting, shallow-water skills training, and 45 minutes exploring the bay under direct supervision of a certified dive professional. The 2-hour activity includes all equipment, facility access with showers and lockers, and instruction — no prior diving experience needed.
The Experience
You arrive at the Marine Park and register at Scuba Dogs' counter, where the staff fits you with a mask, snorkel, fins, and safety vest. A dive professional walks you through a safety briefing and the science of breathing underwater, then leads you into the shallow part of the shoreline for basic skills training. Once you're comfortable, you descend into the bay itself — weightless, breathing normally, watching the water come alive around you.
The 45 minutes underwater take you past schools of blue tangs, damselfish, yellowtail snappers, and sergeant majors. You'll see green and hawksbill turtles gliding through the protected bay. The bottom is layered with history and habitat: the "Fish Protection Wall," an underwater park with statues and Roman columns called "Atlantis City," the "Sea Grapes Corner" crowded with baby fish, and over 200 Taino Reefs that shelter marine life. Your guide stays with you the entire time, pointing things out and making sure you're safe.
Scuba Dogs is the only operator authorized to run dives here, and they've built the setup around the experience: full facilities with lockers, restrooms, and fresh-water showers to rinse off afterward, plus a gift shop and beach swings if anyone in your group wants to stay longer. The whole outing takes 2 hours from registration to the moment you step back onto the sand.
