The sandbar where the river meets the ocean exists only at certain tides, and locals keep it off the maps.
This seven-hour activity in Puerto Rico combines a one-hour jet ski ride across turquoise waters near El Yunque with a guided rainforest hike to a crystal-clear natural pool, plus food at the beachfront Luquillo Kiosks. Two people share each jet ski, with a combined weight limit of 425 pounds per machine. Pickup and drop-off from Old San Juan, Condado, Isla Verde or Río Grande are included, along with water, snacks and a media pack of photos and videos from the day.
The Experience
The day starts with a jet ski ride in Río Grande, where you'll cross turquoise water with El Yunque Rainforest rising behind you. The route takes you past Luquillo Beach to a hidden sandbar: a rare natural formation where the river mouth meets the ocean, known mainly to locals. Two riders share each jet ski, and the machine handles a combined weight of up to 425 pounds.
After an hour on the water, you trade the jet ski for hiking boots and head into the rainforest on the Angelito Trail. The guided hike runs about an hour and ends at a natural pool fed by the forest itself: clear enough to see the bottom, surrounded by the green walls of El Yunque. You'll have time to swim and cool off before heading back down.
The day closes at the Luquillo Kiosks, a strip of open-air food stalls right on the beach where locals eat. This is where you taste the island flavors, not a restaurant tour, but the real thing. Your guide handles the pickup and drop-off in an air-conditioned vehicle from your accommodation, and you'll leave with a media pack of photos and videos from the water and the trail.
