The day starts with a scenic drive and a stop at a local fruit stand before you enter El Yunque National Forest on foot. You'll have time to relax by the cascading water before heading to a local restaurant for dinner and a break.

As the sun sets, you return to the water for the kayak portion. After a brief training in paddling technique, you'll kayak approximately 30 minutes through the Red Mangrove Forest to reach Laguna Grande. Your guide points out protected flora and fauna along the way. Once you arrive at the bioluminescent lagoon, the real magic begins: with every stroke of your paddle, the water lights up in sparkles. The kayaks create swirls of light, and fish glow in the darkness. The organisms creating this effect—dinoflagellates—are tiny creatures that produce their own light when disturbed by movement.

The tour runs about 12 hours total and is considered moderate to strenuous depending on your fitness level. Your guide is trained in lifeguard, CPR and first aid.
