The Experience
The day starts by crossing the 25th of April Bridge with views of downtown Lisbon and Belem, then heads to Christ the King Sanctuary for the best panoramic view of the city and both bridges. You have the option to climb all the way to the top of the statue for five euros. From there, the route takes you south across the Tagus to Alcochete, an old riverside village where King Manuel I was born and where salt production and codfish drying were once the main trades. The town sits on the water with views back toward Lisbon.
Lunch is at a traditional Portuguese restaurant where you taste three different dishes of local gastronomy, with fresh seafood from the region, plus a drink, appetizers, dessert and coffee. After the meal, you walk through Alcochete's streets before crossing the Vasco da Gama Bridge, one of Europe's longest at 17 kilometers, which closes the day with views of Lisbon's newer areas and the river below.
Transport is private throughout, with an air-conditioned vehicle, bottled water on board and WiFi. Your guide speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese or French and meets you at your hotel or accommodation.
