The Experience

Three hours starts at the Epic Volcanic base—a white house at the Vila Franca do Campo marina next to the boat ramp—where you'll get fitted with snorkeling gear and a briefing on what you're about to see. Then you board the public ferry to the islet itself. The crossing is short, and when you arrive, a guide walks you through the geology of this protected reserve: how the submerged volcanic crater formed, what lives in its waters, why the place matters. That knowledge shapes what you see underwater.

The snorkeling happens in the crater's natural pool. A certified guide enters the water with you to point out marine life and keep everyone safe; if you'd rather not snorkel, you can spend the time on the beach or exploring the authorized area of the islet. Either way, you return together on the same ferry back to the marina. The whole group gathers at the base afterward for snacks, drinks and a chance to talk through what you saw.
