The experience

You meet your guide at the Anémona Roundabout in Matosinhos, collect your electric bike and helmet, and get a briefing on the route before setting out. The 27 km loop is mostly flat, which means the e-bike does the work on climbs and you control the pace on the descents and flats. The ride takes 3 to 4 hours total, including stops.

The first real stop is Matosinhos Market, where your guide walks you through the fishing heritage that still shapes the neighborhood: fresh fish, seafood, local produce, and the stories of the people who work there. From there you cycle along Leça Beach with the Atlantic in view, then climb slightly to Capela da Boa Nova, a small chapel perched on the coast with one of the best viewpoints over the water. A short ride takes you to the Obelisco da Praia da Memória, a quiet monument by the sea where you can stand and look out. Then you roll along Matosinhos Beach itself, a wide sandy stretch with open views, before reaching Forte de São Francisco Xavier, a small historic fort where you pause to see it and the ocean beyond.

The final stretch follows the coastline to Foz do Douro, the mouth of the Douro River where it meets the Atlantic. Here you stop at a viewpoint and taste octopus, sardines, a board of Portuguese cheeses, codfish cake, pastel de nata, and a glass of Vinho Verde. The green wine that is light and slightly fizzy. You have time to sit, eat, and take in the views before cycling back to where you started. Every reservation includes a bottle of wine to take with you.
