Step-by-step itinerary

  • Visit university city of Coimbra

  • Enjoy local gastronomy in Coimbra
  • Visit Nazare beaches and lighthouse
  • Walk through Nazare fishing village
  • Explore medieval Obidos streets
  • Visit Obidos castle
  • Taste Ginjinha de Obidos liquor

The Experience

The day starts in Coimbra, a university city where you walk through the old campus and climb to the viewpoints that overlook the Mondego River valley. You get time to taste local food at a restaurant the guide knows — this is where the itinerary slows down and you eat what the region actually cooks, not what a tourist menu offers. From there the route heads to Nazaré, a fishing town built into a cliff face above one of Europe's biggest waves. You descend into the village itself, walk the narrow streets and stand at the lighthouse looking out over the bay; the guide points out how the boats still work the water the way they have for centuries.

The final stop is Obidos, a medieval walled town where the streets are so narrow that cars cannot fit. You walk through them, visit the castle, and stop at a local shop to taste Ginjinha, a cherry liquor made in the town — small glasses, strong stuff, the kind of thing you find nowhere else. The air-conditioned vehicle waits between stops, WiFi runs on board, and bottled water is provided throughout the day. A live guide in English or Spanish narrates the route and answers questions as you go.

This tour is built around getting out of Porto itself and into the smaller cities where Portuguese life actually happens. You are not racing through a checklist; each stop has room to breathe, and the guide steers you toward the real version of each place instead of the postcard one.
