Step-by-step itinerary
Nazaré Jeep Safari and Sightseeing
- Visit Sitio da Nazaré and Fort
- See Miracle of Our Lady site
- Pass through Village Center
- 4x4 tour to São Martinho do Porto beaches
- Return to Nazaré
The Experience
The UMM is a stripped-down, open-sided military vehicle—no air conditioning, noisy, and built for terrain rather than comfort. That is the point. You sit high enough to see over the landscape instead of through a windscreen, and the noise means you hear the land as you cross it. The three-hour loop starts at your hotel and heads to the Sitio da Nazaré, the clifftop where the Miracle of Our Lady of Nazareth is venerated; entry costs 1 euro per person. From there the route drops through the village center and then turns off-road, heading inland toward São Martinho do Porto with stops at the beaches along the way.
The guide speaks your language and knows the region—the stops are fixed, but the pace and the commentary are live. The vehicle is loud enough that conversation happens in bursts, and the ride itself is part of the experience: the suspension is basic, the turns are sharp, and the whole thing moves at the speed of someone who knows where the ground is solid. Children from age 3 ride along; specialized infant seats can be arranged in advance if you need one.

What is the Sitio da Nazaré?
The Sitio da Nazaré is a clifftop sanctuary dedicated to the Miracle of Our Lady of Nazareth, a pilgrimage site overlooking the coast. Entry is 1 euro per person and is included as a stop on the tour route.
Does the jeep have air conditioning?
No. The UMM is a convertible, open-sided vehicle without air conditioning, which is what makes it possible to see and hear the landscape as you move through it. The tour runs in all weather.
Can I bring a child under 3?
Children are welcome from age 3 onward. If you have an infant, specialized infant seats can be requested when you book, though they are not standard on the vehicle.
Is the off-road section difficult to ride in?
The off-road run to São Martinho do Porto is part of the route, and the UMM's suspension is basic—the ride is bumpy and unsprung. It is suitable for all physical fitness levels, but it is not a smooth drive.
What language will the guide speak?
The guide speaks English, Spanish, Portuguese, or French depending on the group. You can request your preferred language when you book.
Does the tour include meals or drinks?
No meals or beverages are included. You may want to bring water, especially on a warm day, since the vehicle offers no shelter from the sun.
