The experience
The climb begins in the early morning from the House of the Mountain at 1,230 meters altitude. You'll follow a professional certified guide up an 8-kilometer trail marked by solidified lava, volcanic rock and loose fragments that require hand support and careful footing. The headlamp and hiking poles come with you. The guide manages the group's pace throughout, watching the weather and adjusting for conditions as you progress through the night. This is not a walk. The terrain is steep and uneven, and the ascent demands good physical condition and motor coordination.
The reward is reaching Piquinho when daylight begins. That moment (standing at 2,351 meters as the sun rises over the Atlantic) is what the climb builds toward. The full experience typically takes between 7 and 9 hours, and the descent follows the same volcanic trail. Tripix Azores has guided more than 10,000 climbers since 2015, and their guides work the Peak Mountain year-round, combining local knowledge with constant attention to safety.
You'll receive a Climbing Certificate of Achievement and Allianz Personal Accident Insurance is included. Mount Pico Natural Reserve access is covered. Proper mountain boots and suitable climbing equipment are mandatory: the Mountain House reserves the right to exclude participants who don't meet these requirements.
