The Experience

The tour leaves Funchal and heads south to Câmara de Lobos, a fishing village famous for its colorful boats and the poncha drink that originated there. From there it moves to Ribeira Brava, a seaside town built around a stream (its name means "wild river") with a church, cafes, and a promenade facing the coast. The route then passes through Madalena do Mar, a quiet village wedged between steep cliffs and banana plantations that cover the hillside in green, before stopping at Bishop's Fountain Viewpoint in the mountains for views over valleys and the Laurissilva Forest.

The tour then crosses to Madeira's northwestern tip and Porto Moniz, where you stop for lunch and can swim in natural volcanic pools carved into lava rock and filled with seawater. From there it heads back east along the north coast, passing the Véu da Noiva waterfall viewpoint—a tall cascade dropping down cliffs into the ocean, named for its resemblance to a bridal veil—and the village of São Vicente, built in a green valley with traditional architecture and access to volcanic caves. The final major stop is Cabo Girão, one of Europe's highest sea cliffs at 580 meters, where a glass-floored skywalk lets you look straight down over terraced farmland and the towns below.
