The Experience

The van picks you up between 9:30 and 10:00 from your Funchal hotel. You'll start at Câmara de Lobos, the colourful fishing village where traditional wooden boats crowd the harbor—the first real taste of how Madeira's coast still works. From there the route climbs to Cabo Girão, where a glass-floored skywalk hangs 589 meters above the ocean; the cliffs drop straight down into the sea, and the view holds you still for as long as you stand there.

The day moves through quieter stops the guide knows—places without crowds, where you can hear the waves and the wind instead of engines. Seixal's black volcanic sand beach sits tucked against wild cliffs; Porto Moniz's natural pools are carved into the rock by the ocean itself, and lunch happens there, by the water. Paul da Serra, Madeira's high plateau, comes later, with an optional stop at a local poncha bar if you want to try the island's traditional drink and fresh cakes (bring a few euros).
