The experience

The tour runs 3 to 4 hours and starts with pickup from your Funchal accommodation in an air-conditioned vehicle. Your guide is a local who knows the island well and speaks English or Portuguese. If the main guide is booked, Ricardo or another professional driver steps in. The route is built around three stops that frame Madeira's geography and character, so you move between them without navigating yourself.

Pico dos Barcelos sits high above Funchal and gives you a panorama that runs from the Atlantic to the city nestled among green hills. Cabo Girão comes next: a glass platform suspended 580 meters above the water, with entry at €2 per person as of March 2023. Between these two, you stop at a traditional Madeiran fishing village where Winston Churchill came to paint. The guide will tell you which spots he favored. At Monte, you can watch the toboggan run from a café or ride it yourself for €15 each if you want that part of the day.

The vehicle is yours alone (or shared only with whoever else booked your group size), so the guide can pause longer at a viewpoint if something catches your eye, skip a stop if you'd rather spend time elsewhere, or adjust the route based on what interests you most.
