The Experience
Your driver picks you up and heads straight to Miradouro do Pico da Torre for a first view over Câmara de Lobos, then climbs to Cabo Girão. At 580 meters, it's the second-highest cliff in Europe, and the suspended glass platform—the skywalk—is what makes it unmissable: you stand on transparent floor over the ocean. From there, the route drops through Ribeira Brava, a 15th-century valley known for bananas and sugar cane, and passes Ponta do Sol, the sunniest spot on the island, where you stop for coffee and a break.
The jeep then climbs to Paul da Serra, Madeira's only plateau at 1,500 meters, where the landscape flattens and fog often rolls in—a stark shift from the coastal cliffs. Descending into the north coast, you enter Fanal Forest, a vast green expanse between Seixal and Ribeira da Janela. A short walk leads to a small cave with a panoramic view of the Atlantic. Ribeira da Janela itself reveals basalt columns rising from the water, and you stop at Seixal to see the black sand beach and natural swimming pools before arriving at Porto Moniz for lunch, where the famous natural lava pools sit at the edge of the town.
The day ends back in Câmara de Lobos at Henriques & Henriques winery, where you taste Madeira wines—a tradition on the island for centuries. The tour runs Monday to Friday for the winery visit; the rest of the route is the same every day. A live guide speaks English, Spanish, or Portuguese depending on the group.

Is this one for you?A shared jeep tour with a driver guide suits travelers who want the route and the stops arranged and don't want to navigate the winding roads themselves—you sit back while someone who knows the island handles the driving, timing and the off-road sections. If you prefer to drive yourself or travel alone, a rental jeep is a different choice; this one is built for groups and for letting someone else manage the day.

What is Cabo Girão's skywalk and why is it famous?
The skywalk is a suspended glass platform at Cabo Girão, 580 meters above the ocean, that lets you stand on transparent floor over the cliff edge. It's one of the most photographed attractions in Madeira because it combines the height of Europe's second-highest promontory with the sensation of standing in mid-air over the sea.
Do we stop for lunch, and where?
Yes, lunch is at Porto Moniz, the village famous for its natural lava pools. You have time to walk around and explore the town during the stop.
What happens at the end of the tour?
The tour ends at Henriques & Henriques winery in Câmara de Lobos, where you taste Madeira wines. This stop runs Monday to Friday only; on weekends the tour returns without the winery visit.
Is this tour suitable for children?
Children are welcome from age 4 onward. The tour is not recommended for pregnant travelers, and babies under 4 are not allowed.
How much of the tour involves off-road driving?
Off-road sections are built into the route, particularly in the interior and around Paul da Serra and Fanal Forest. The jeep handles these stretches, and the driver guides the group through them as part of the standard itinerary.
What language does the guide speak?
The driver guide speaks English, Spanish, or Portuguese, depending on the group's preference and composition.
