The Experience
Seven nights in four-star hotels means your luggage moves ahead of you each day—you carry only what fits on the bike. The tour runs from Sagres through Lagos to Portimão, then east along beaches backed by sandstone cliffs, past fishing villages like Ferragudo and Carvoeiro, and into the resort towns of Albufeira and Faro. Each stage is marked on the GPS app loaded onto your phone, so you navigate without a guide. The bike comes with front and side bags, a helmet, a lock shared between two riders, and a puncture repair kit; an e-bike upgrade is available if you want motor assist on the climbs.
The route reveals what makes the Algarve distinct: Ponta da Piedade's sea arches and limestone grottoes, the Ria Formosa's lagoons and salt marshes where wading birds gather, and villages like Tavira where whitewashed houses line the Gilão River and more than thirty churches mark centuries of history. You stop to swim at Praia da Falésia under red cliffs, explore the Portimão Museum, walk the fortress walls at Sagres and Cacela Velha, and eat fresh seafood in Olhão's waterfront market. The Ria Formosa stage on day six passes through protected wetlands where the landscape shifts from ocean beaches to tidal channels and barrier islands.
On the final day, you cycle east toward Vila Real de Santo António near the Spanish border, then return to Tavira by train or bike for your last night. Breakfast is included at every hotel; half-board (breakfast and dinner) is available on request. The tour accepts children from age one (in a pram or stroller), and service animals are welcome. You'll need at least moderate fitness to handle the daily distances and coastal terrain. Transfers from airports and hotels are available on request, and the app includes audio guidance in English, French and German.
