The experience

What makes this different from a trail ride or a lesson at a distant stable? The picadero is set up on-site in Carrapateira Village specifically for young riders, so the whole experience stays contained and supervised. Kids spend half an hour in the saddle, learning basic tips and how to handle the horse, then get time to play with the animals on the ground: brushing them, feeding them treats, getting comfortable with the horses before and after the ride. A helmet is provided, and the guide stays with the group throughout, speaking English, Spanish or Portuguese depending on your preference.

Parents can watch from inside the arena, close enough to see everything. The operator emphasizes safety and personal attention for small groups or private bookings, so the pace and focus stay on each child. Wear closed, comfortable shoes and bring layers if you're visiting in winter. After the session, photos from the ride are sent to you, so you have a record of the moment.
