Step-by-step itinerary

The experience
The tour starts at Conimbriga, a Roman city occupied since 139 BC and later the capital of the Lusitania province under Emperor Augustus. You'll see the House of Fountains with its mythological mosaics (seasons, monsters, birds, sea animals), and the forum, amphitheatre and thermal baths that shaped daily life in a Roman city. The museum holds objects from excavations that show how people lived here: their religious practices, the decoration of manor houses, the activity at the forum. This is the foundation before you step into the landscape itself.
From there, a 10-kilometer hike takes you through the Mouros River valley. You'll walk past the waterfall where Romans bathed and spend much of the route on the riverbanks themselves, moving through the same water and stone they knew. The path passes a small village at the base of Sicó Mountain, a shift from ruin to living settlement. A professional photographer guide documents the day, and you receive a souvenir photo from the outing.
Hotel pickup and drop-off are included if you select that option. Otherwise, public transportation runs to the site. The tour operates in all weather, so dress for the conditions. Groups max out at 10 people, and the guide speaks your choice of English, Spanish or Portuguese. Food and drinks are optional and paid on site.
